Responsible Travel Ethics
Silver Bike Tours is dedicated to sustainable and responsible travel and we are very involved in efforts to preserve and protect the areas where we operate. When you ride with us, we hope to connect you in a meaningful and personally relevant way to the places and people you encounter along the way. As well, we hope to inspire you to become an advocate for the trails and environment you visit with us.
At the core of our business is respect for the Earth. We do our best to minimize our footprint through careful energy use, recycling, reusing and reducing. We support local merchants and are proud to be bringing tourism and its positive benefits to our local communities.
On our bicycle tours, we minimize motorized travel, preferring to see a small geographic area well rather than hustling through a large area. With our guides, or through our trip notes, we help you understand what you are seeing by telling you more about the life history of the plants and animals we observe.
Another responsible travel core value we practice is giving back. In our home state of Idaho we have a positive impact on dozens of businesses from whom we purchase supplies and services. Each year we donate over $15,000 in services and goods to support various charities in northern Idaho, eastern Washington and western Montana. Since 2008 we have been running an annual "Raft for the Cure – Coeur d'Alene" to raise funds for our local chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since 2009 we have been running an annual "Raft to Remember" to benefit the Inland Northwest Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
Local Guides: The majority of our guides are from the West, or Northwest, and most hold college degrees in related fields such as geology, biology and recreation management. As a company, we provide many opportunities for continuing guide education, through training programs and hosting guest educators on trips.
Responsible and sustainable travel requires people and groups that are innovative and dedicated. We applaud those that are working to help keep our local bike trail system in top condition and looking for ways to expand opportunities for biking enthusiasts in a way that is environmentally responsible. We are actively involved with and financially supports the following groups. We encourage you to visit these websites to learn more about our local bike trails.
